Een heel diverse groep Amerikaanse toeristen doorkruist het Europese continent onder leiding van de Britse buschauffeur en reisleider Charlie. Doel van de busvakantie: in achttien dagen negen landen bezoeken, van noord naar zuid. In elke stad beleeft er wel een van de toeristen een avontuur. De film is een satire op hoe veel Amerikanen hun vakantie door Europa doorbrengen: door middel van volgestopte reizen waarbij de toeristen van de ene attractie langs de andere bezienswaardigheid naar de zoveelste hoofdstad worden geleid, zonder echt 'stil te kunnen staan' bij al dat moois.
